OFFICE OF THE CHIEF HERALD OF ARMS OF MALTA UPDATED SUMMARY OF CHARGES

  1. For a Registration of Arms, the cost of the Documents of Registration are as follows:
    1. Without any artwork (blazon-only)
      • Maltese resident: €450 + VAT @ 18%
      • Non-Maltese resident: €850 + VAT @ 18% (if in EU)
    2. With artwork supplied by petitioner
      • Maltese resident: €750 plus VAT @ 18%
      • Non-Maltese resident: €1,250 + VAT @ 18% (if in EU)
  • Should applicant wish the Arms to be painted by an Office artist, the charges shown in 2b apply
    • Holders of a Maltese title of nobility- details on request
    • Each Registration of a Badge/Flag or Standard requires payment of a registration processing fee as follows:
      • Blazon only: €250 (non-residents €500).
      • Blazon and submitted artwork: €400 (non-residents €800).

VAT @ 18% must be added where appropriate

2. For a Grant of basic Arms, the cost of Letters Patent are as follows:

    1. Without any artwork (blazon-only)
      • Maltese resident: €600 + VAT @ 18%
      • Non-Maltese resident: €1000 + VAT @ 18%
    2. With artwork created by the Office of the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta
      • Maltese resident: €1,100 + VAT @ 18%
      • Non-Maltese resident: €1,600 + VAT @ 18%
    3. With artwork supplied by petitioner
      • Maltese resident: €750 + VAT @ 18%
      • Non-Maltese resident: €1,250 + VAT @ 18% (if in EU)

Additional grant of Badge/Flag or Standard

  • Blazon only: €350 (non-residents €700) (includes Badge & Flag/Standard)
  • Blazon and submitted artwork: €500 [non-residents €1000]

  • If a Badge/Flag or Standard has already been assumed but is considered to be acceptable for granting and no further input is required from the Office of the Chief Herald, a discount will be applied at the discretion of the Chief
  • Should a petitioner apply for Arms/Badge/ Flag or Standard at the same time, a discount will be applied at the discretion of the Chief Herald.

Extra charges for Complex Arms

The items listed below are all considered as additional design elements whose costs will have to be added to the standard fee when original painted artwork is to be produced. To each charge 18% VAT must be added if appropriate, these extra charges are identical for both Maltese and non-Maltese residents.

  • Quartered shield – €250
  • Grand quartered shield – €400
  • Extra crest – €125
  • Extra helm and mantling – €125
  • Supporters and compartment –€300
  • Circlet and motto – €115
  • Each insignia pendent from shield – €40
  • Maltese cross behind shield – €75 – (use is restricted)
  • Sash/Collar around arms – €125
  • Cadet shield (standard cadet size) – €200
  • Cadet quartered shield – €350
  • Cadet grand quartered shield –€500
  • Coronet – €75
  • Badge – €400
  • Complex badge structure – €500 to €800
  • Standard or flag – €300 to €500
  • Bordure – €75

Pedigrees:

  • A total of 10 generations collectively are included in the price of Letters Patent/Document of Registration for coats of arms. Above that an additional charge of €200 (inclusive of VAT) applies.
  • Formal registration of pedigree – cost will depend on length of pedigree at the discretion of the Chief Herald.

NOTES:

  • In all cases, an additional surcharge of €100 (inclusive of VAT) is also payable to cover all costs relating to publication in the Malta Government
  • For non-Maltese residents an additional fee is payable for packaging and Courier costs; this fee will depend on the country concerned.
  • The fee includes, where necessary, one preliminary version of the arms. If any further preliminaries are required by the applicant, they will be charged at €50 each plus VAT @ 18%, where applicable.
  • 50% of the overall final fee must be paid to Heritage Malta Services , before any work can start on the Letters Patent or Document of Registration,
  • Please note that the fee is payable only in Euro and that the applicant is responsible for all bank charges.
  • Deposits are strictly not

FORMATS:

The Letters Patent/Documents of Registration are available in two formats

  1. Embossed leather binder with decorated pages
  2. A2 format suitable for framing

Should both formats be requested, a discount will be applied at the discretion of the Chief Herald.
